  1.What’s your favorite animal? Why?

  Model Answer:I’d probably have to say dogs, it’s hard to explain exactly why though, I guess it’s because they are really loyal and quite affectionate and playful, much more so than cats who I think tend to be a bit more indifferent and aloof. So yeah I’d say I’m much more of a dog person than a cat person.

  Model Answer: I think typically, older people in my country go for things like pet birds, and maybe something like keeping fish in an aquarium(魚缸), younger people on the other hand are more likely to keep cats and dogs, especially those cute little dogs, terriers (小獵狗)and poodles(卷毛小狗).I think they’re called, in fact you quite often see young people carrying their dogs around or walking them in parks.

  3.Do you think cities are suitable places for keeping a pet?

  Model Answer: As I just said, in my country most people keep small pets like birds, fish, cats and small dogs and if you ask me, these are totally fine to keep as pets in big cities;but if you’re talking about bigger pets, like some larger breeds of dog, you know likeGerman Shepherd dogs(德國牧羊犬)or Huskies, I don’t really think it’s fair to keep them in big cities because they need lots of wide open spaces to run around in, I really think these kinds of pets belong in the countryside or just somewhere with a big garden, not a cramped city apartment.

  4.What do you think are the benefits for children if they keep a pet?

  Model Answer: I think everyone would agree that keeping a pet can teach a child a sense ofempathy, especially if a kid learns to read their pet’s needs: is he hungry? Does he need to go outside? Maybe the pet needs to be comforted. As well as this a pet can teach confidence and responsibility simply because children can gain confidence by having the responsibility of caring for a pet. Even really young toddlers (學步的小孩) as young as three years old can manage simple taskssuch as filling the pet’s water and food bowls. So yeah, definitely, in many ways pets can be a great influence on children’s development.
