  Students in university education should develop specialist in one subject area rather than develop a wider range of different subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  In contemporary society education plays a pivotal role in individuals’growth and social progress.Hence, what kind of educational system, a general education or a specialized one, a university should adopt in a country has aroused wide attention. As to me, I strongly support universities in China should favour students to concentrate on developing one specific area of knowledge as a result of job-hunting and continuous development in a career.

  Initially,it is much easier for students to find an ideal job if he or she is specialised in one subject.The main reason leading to this is that students can be obsessed with exploring knowledge in this field in depth and gain numerous opportunities to practise what they have learned.Then after their graduation, they can undertake the job related with their major effortlessly, which is an apparent benefit students receiving general education cannot acquire.

  Besides,students can settle down in their jobs for long and obtain a stable development in their career.Students who learn a wide range of subjects may take one job for a period of time and switch to another afterwards since they have equipped themselves with plenty of knowledge. However,in China,companies actually prefer to employ staffs who can work stably in their workplaces because it may cost them much energy to cultivate a qualified employee and everyone is hoped to contribute most to the long-term development of the enterprises.

  I, by and large, am convinced that focusing on one subject area is the first choice under the Chinese context. What the government should be concerned about is how to enhance the quality of specialised education, but not whether it is worthwhile to take general education into account.
